MANILA, Philippines – Lighting brand Nxled has doubled-down on its support of the University of the Philippines’ (UP) men’s basketball team.
For the second year in a row, the company will be supporting the Fighting Maroons as they campaign in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament.
“Nxled is excited for the bright future of the UP Maroons,” Catherine Tiu-Tan, Nxled executive vice-president, said in a statement.
“We believe in this promising team, and we pledge our full support as they embark in a new direction this season,” she added.
After spending several seasons at the bottom of the UAAP standings, the Fighting Maroons are finally expected to be a contender in Season 81, thanks to the improvement made by its young core as well as the addition of blue-chip recruits.
The Maroons are also set to welcome Bright Akhuetie, who transferred to UP from University of Perpetual Help two years ago and spent the past year serving his residency.
“We thank Nxled for recognizing the potential of this young team,” said UP coach Bo Perasol. “We are proud to have maintained their support and trust in us, as we aim higher this coming season.”
Meanwhile, NowheretogobutUP Foundation chairman Atty. Agaton Uvero said: “We are grateful to enjoy Nxled’s backing. We will strive to represent the brand well in the upcoming UAAP season.”
The partnership was made official on Tuesday at the Quezon Hall in UP Diliman.
Present during the signing were UP Diliman Chancellor Dr. Michael L. Tan; Robinson Retail Holdings, Inc. president, CEO and director Robina Gokongwei-Pe; and officials of the NowheretogobutUP Foundation.
